Fallen Elevator in Thane, India, Injures Seven Women

Seven women riding an elevator in the Ambernath neighborhood of Thane, India, were hurt when an elevator fell from a building’s second floor, The Times of India reports. The women had entered the building on March 21 to take part in dance practice. As they were riding the elevator, it suddenly fell, traveling quickly. Two of the women suffered leg fractures and went for treatment at a nearby hospital. A developer of the building said the structure is new and the elevator was operational, but that there were too many people aboard. He said that the women ignored previous warnings about overloading the elevator, and added that the elevator is being maintained by a society organization.
