Fatality in Chinese Shopping Mall After Glass Railing Gave Way

On November 16, a girl in Shandong, China, suffered a fatal four-story fall in a newly opened shopping mall after a glass railing near an escalator gave way, Asia One is among outlets to report. According to Chinese media reports and videos of the incident, the girl was leaning on a glass railing while standing in the space beside it and an escalator. Once the railing collapsed, she lost her balance and attempted to grab onto the escalator’s handrail but was unsuccessful. An eyewitness who found the girl told Xiaoxiang Morning Herald that, although the shopping mall is located near a hospital, a traffic jam delayed the paramedics’ arrival, with it taking more than 10 minutes to arrive at the scene. According to Jimu News, local police have confirmed the girl’s death, and are investigating the incident.
