New York City Fire Department (FDNY) crews rescued seven passengers stuck in an elevator at Manhattan’s Empire State Building — at 1,250-ft, one of NYC’s tallest buildings — at around 6 p.m. on February 29, CBS Newsis among outlets to report. All adults, the passengers were stuck in the elevator for approximately an hour and a half on the 16th floor before special FDNY units arrived to assist them through a top hatch on the elevator’s roof and over to an adjacent car. The passengers were then lowered down through the top hatch on that car, which brought them down to the lobby. No one was injured, and the cause of the incident is under investigation.
