Employees from Fujitec’s Technology Research Department and R&D headquarters in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, participated in an accessibility awareness walk hosted by the nonprofit WheeLog organization on March 8 in Yokohama, Japan, Fujitec announced. With an aim to create “a world in which anyone can go anywhere,” WheeLog has developed initiatives like the WheeLog! barrier-free map app that allows users to post information about elevators, handicapped-accessible bathrooms and other facilities for wheelchair users. On the day of the event, participants — both able-bodied and wheelchair-bound — first watched a video about wheelchair operation and assistance methods, then toured the Chinatown area of Yokohama to gain firsthand experience of the obstacles wheelchair users face while moving through crowds and using elevators. Participating Fujitec employees “are currently working to solve challenges such as universal design for elevators,” Fujitec observed.
