Municipal authorities in Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia, have allocated KGS165 million (US$1.8 million) to replace approximately 100 outdated elevators in the city, 24 KG reports. Bishkek Vice Mayor Ramiz Aliev announced the allocation at a meeting of the Committee on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy of the Parliament. The Bishkekgorlift municipal enterprise services 974 elevators, 547 of which have been in service for at least 25 years — longer than their prescribed service life. The municipality also replaced 100 elevators in 2023 and 2024. Prior to that, Bishkekgorlift replaced only 20 elevators per year.
