Organizers tell ELEVATOR WORLD that, despite a little rain and thunder, the 2nd annual Elevator Champions for Charity (ECC) golf outing provided a great day of golf, food and networking on July 18 at the North Hills Country Club in Manhasset, New York. Approximately 100 people attended, raising funds to financially support families tragically affected by critical or fatal elevator-related accidents, National Association of Elevator Contractors education and safety programs and the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation. Elevator Champions for Charity is a 501 (c-3) nonprofit, tax-exempt organization with a mission to promote better elevator field employee education and support elevator families affected by workplace-related tragedies. “The elevator business and industry are amazing careers that provide opportunities, but also hard work and risk,” Don Gelestino, who conceived ECC, said. “Risk is why ECC is in existence. We are here to help reduce fatal incidents involving field employees, provide financial assistance to those affected and strengthen education and training.” The next ECC is tentatively planned for July 2023.
