Hines Discontinues Plans for Downtown Oakland Development

Houston, Texas-based developer Hines has halted plans for a 39-story office tower at 415 20th Street in downtown Oakland, California, due to the struggling commercial real estate market, SF YIMBY reports. The proposal would have become the tallest structure in the Bay Area; instead, the site is being offered as a future home for a new Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police headquarters. The 1.03-acre parcel is less than a block from the 19th Street Oakland BART station. The decision to stop pursuing the property came in the same month that Hines listed its approved plans for a mixed-use tower in San Francisco for sale. The 415 20th Street proposal was to rise 622-ft tall with nearly 900,00 ft2 of mixed-use space.
