OpenRoad Auto Group Canada plans to redevelop its Honda dealership at 6948 Kingsway in Burnaby, B.C.’s Edmonds Town Centre into a high-density, mixed-use development, Vancouver Urbanized reported on April 22. The 1970s-built dealership sits about a 10-min walk from SkyTrain’s Edmonds Station. The redevelopment is being designed by IBI Group and calls for a 419-ft-tall, 40-story condominium tower on the south side of the site and a six-story rental housing and retail building on the north side. Between the two buildings will be a combined total of 426 homes, including 346 condominiums, 69 rental homes and 11 townhomes. The rental housing component is guided by the city’s Rental Use Zoning Policy stream that tops off a strata residential building with 20% additional rental homes and the further stipulation that 25% of them (17 units) be set at below-market rates. The remaining 51 homes will be set at market rates. A construction timeline was not released.
