In Memoriam: Peter Lycett

Lycett

Peter Lycett, former managing director at London’s International Lift Equipment Ltd. (ILE), passed away in November 2023 at age 55. Lycett was in the industry for 37 years (1985-2022), and had a great love for ILE as a second-generation owner, Dave Cooper of LECS wrote in a personal memorial for Lift Industry News. Lycett started in the industry as an apprentice with Key Elevators, working as an engineer’s mate to Gary Poynter and becoming a natural when it came to modernization. “Peter and his supply side contemporaries defined the growth of the independent lift sector during the 1980s and 1990s,” Cooper observed. A dedicated family man, Lycett loved travelling the world on business, but also coming home to his beloved daughters. He was well-known throughout the lift industry for his unorthodox theories, sense of humor, intelligence and kindness, as he forged strong relationships. Lycett was instrumental in developing the GAL VF door operator, and the Glaser brothers credited him with the initial idea. Since 1985, ILE has been the exclusive distributor of GAL products in the U.K. and holds strong distribution relationships with other world-leading lift equipment manufacturers. “We loved Peter as our favorite and most entertaining client,” London-based EV Architects said upon his passing. “We will all miss his surprise visits to the office to discuss the latest change of plans!”
