India Officials To Report on FoBs, Lifts for Elderly, Disabled

The Delhi, India, High Court has directed the Delhi government to file a status report relating to the accessibility of foot overbridges (FoBs) and other public utilities for people with disabilities and senior citizens, India Today reports. Public federal justices issued notice to the Centre, Delhi government, Public Works Department (PWD) and the Office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, and directs them to respond to the petition while listing it for further hearing on September 6. The court was hearing a petition by a lawyer seeking directions to the authorities to ensure the convenience of and full accessibility to lifts, FoBs and other public amenities and structures to especially abled and senior citizens of the country and ensure compliance with the provisions under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Officials said that while many FoBs have been installed, maintenance and upkeep of these have been mostly forgotten by respondents.
