KONE gained IEC 62443 cybersecurity certification for its DX class of elevator controllers and ISO 27001 certification for its 24/7 Connected Services, achievements that “are a first for the global elevator and escalator industry,” KONE announced on May 3. KONE Chief Technology Officer Maciej Kranz observed cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important in a world where the physical and digital are connected. To achieve the certifications, KONE underwent rigorous independent audits conducted by third-party certification bodies. The audits evaluated the company’s cybersecurity and information security controls and processes, including policies, procedures, technical controls and requirements. KONE’s development process included threat modeling, security testing and vulnerability management assessment throughout the product lifecycle. The company also implements constant monitoring of its connected solutions. DX Class elevators are aligned with the new ISO 8102-20 cybersecurity standards for elevators, escalators and moving walks, which KONE has been involved in creating alongside industry peers.
