Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) has revealed its plan for a 160-m, 37-story office tower at the site of a 10-story, 1980s office block by the Old Street roundabout in East London, Architects’ Journal reports. Approximately 37% of the existing building at 99 City Road would be demolished to make way for the new tower, which would provide an additional 45,000 m2 of office space, 510 m2 of flexible community space and an enlivened public realm with cafés. “Rooted in the distinct history of the local areas,” according to design documents, the structure would feature a stepped massing and a solid terracotta façade. The developer is Endurance Land, and a planning application is expected to be submitted to the Islington Council in early 2023.
