Work to repair the lift and escalator at Fleet Walk, a mall in the seaside town of Torquay on the southwestern coast of England, is underway and expected to be completed later this year, the Torbay Council reports. The Council is working with Fleet Walk asset manager Milligan to “ensure a reliable and efficient system that seamlessly connects all levels of the car park with the shops, Fleet Street and surrounding areas.” Work on the escalator, which will include a full mechanical overhaul and specialist refurbishment of all major components, is due to be completed by February 21. The next phase of work on the lift on the harbor end of Fleet Walk serving all levels of the car park is set to begin March. The Council thanked users for their patience and provided alternative routes for step-free access. The work, said Councillor Chris Lewis, will greatly enhance access and “help nearby businesses to thrive.”
