LRTA In Manila Working To Fix Defective VT Units

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) in Manila, Philippines, is working to fix 12 defective vertical-transportation (VT) units after a photo of a disabled person climbing stairs as two authority personnel carried his wheelchair went viralphilstar GLOBAL is among outlets to report. Of 13 elevators and escalators serving LRT Line 2, only one is functional, and the joint venture that supplied and installed them has been blacklisted and is facing a formal, multimillion-dollar graft complaint. The LRTA said in a statement that it is “doing its best to remedy the situation,” including pursuing emergency procurement of needed replacement parts and identifying a maintenance provider to perform the repairs.
