Mumbai’s first foot overbridge (FoB) outfitted with a travelator, or moving walk, is set to start construction in early 2023 at South Mumbai’s Jacob Circle-Mahalaxmi station, Construction World India reports. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is undertaking the work, which involves a 700-m-long pedestrian bridge that links three different modes of transportation — a metro rail, a suburban railway and a monorail — overseen by three separate government agencies. Accessibility between the underground metro station and the bridge will be provided by elevators and escalators. MMRDA originally planned to extend the monorail line to Mahalaxmi station, but found installing travelators was more cost-effective. Work is expected to be completed in February 2024.
