The foot overbridge (FOB) at Raika Bagh Railway Station in Jodhpur in Rajasthan, northwest India, recently received four new escalators, part of a 4.5-crore (US$498,640) project aimed at enhancing accessibility for the elderly, differently abled, sick and those carrying heavy luggage, Bhaskar reports. All on the Jodhpur Cantt side of the FOB, the escalators connect both platforms of the station. Work on the escalators, which complement new lifts on the FOB on the Jodhpur side, began in August 2023. Railway authorities said the vertical-transportation equipment also improves passenger comfort, safety and crowd control, enabling people to reach their destination platforms on time and leave the station more easily. "This is a major step toward making Raika Bagh a modern, passenger-friendly station," Jodhpur Divisional Railway Manager Anurag Tripathi said.
