The existing Calvary Baptist Church and Salisbury Hotel at 125 West 57th Street in NYC will be demolished to make way for a new, 26-story building, including the church’s new space, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat and the New York Post report. The project is moving forward after a year-long delay due to a construction lender pulling out of the project. Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners and Cain International have completed the acquisition of the Calvary Baptist Church property and will develop the 26-story building totaling approximately 260,000 ft2 on the site. Designed by FX Collaborative, the new building will average 10,000 ft2per floorplate, with floor-to-ceiling heights over 14 ft. Calvary Baptist Church will separately own and occupy the 180-ft-high base portion of the building, which will double the amount of space for its congregation. Demolition work on the existing building will begin in the fall, with vertical construction to start in early 2022. The building is expected to open in late 2024.
