Oklahoma Suspends Enforcement of Parts of Code Over High Costs
The Oklahoma Department of Labor has suspended enforcement of sections concerning ascending car overspeed protection and unintended car movement of ASME A17.3 (3.10.13, 3.10.14 and 3.13) elevator code effective October 12, 2022, the National Elevator Industry, Inc. reported in its recent newsletter. Although the provisions were not set to take effect until July 1, 2030, the department determined the suspension was warranted given the high costs of the required modifications: US$20,000-US$30,000 per elevator. Elevator contractors will be notified by the department of any further changes in enforcement.
