One Dead, Two Injured in Kazakhstan Elevator Collapse

Police, labor and housing authorities are investigating the cause of an elevator collapse at a residential building in Asana, Kazakhstan, on November 13 that left one elevator maintenance worker dead and two injured, Caliber is among outlets to report. Authorities said that, of the building’s 16 elevators, only six had been officially commissioned and that mandatory safety checks had not been completed at the time of the incident. In the recent incident, an elevator fell on three workers, killing one on-site. The other two were hospitalized in “moderate” and “serious” condition. Following numerous complaints about the elevators falling and entrapping people, the previous maintenance company was replaced in September. Residents said the elevators had failed safety inspections twice prior the fatal incident.
