On the heels of Otis Chair, President and CEO Judy Marks stating during a recent earnings call that Otis had won the modernization and service contract at Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building in Dubai, U.A.E., the company formally announced the award on March 6. Emaar Properties selected the OEM to modernize 34 of 57 elevators and all eight escalators in the building. The contract also includes servicing all units for an additional 10 years. Otis installed the building’s original elevators and escalators in 2010. Elevator management system EMS Panorama, which continuously monitors the system’s performance, will be replaced by an upgraded version that will give building staff and Otis technicians real-time remote control of equipment and hall settings. The system will also manage a full range of operation-critical functions —such as travel, door and landing information — to facilitate shorter wait times and faster, more efficient journeys. Otis Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) President Enrique MiƱarro Viseras observed that Otis has been present in the U.A.E. for more than 50 years, and is particularly proud of its work at the Burj Khalifa.
