Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corp., announced on December 18 it provided 107 units to the newly inaugurated Terminal 2 (T2) at Kempegowda International Airport (Bengaluru [BLR] Airport) in Bengaluru, India. Contributing to the smooth and efficient movement of 24 million passengers (as well as goods) annually at BLR T2 are 29 Otis escalators, 50 elevators, two dumbwaiters and 26 moving walks. Each unit is designed with a focus on passenger experience and uses regenerative drives for energy-efficient operation. Using 100% renewable energy and the largest airport terminal in the world to be pre-certified Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council, T2 sets a new benchmark in sustainability, Otis observes. BLR Airport’s 255,000-m2 T2 was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as a tribute to the Garden City of Bengaluru. “The Indian aviation industry is one of the fastest growing in the world, with passenger capacity expected to reach 420 million in four years,” Otis India President Sebi Joseph said. “As the government invests in airport infrastructure and the elevator industry ramps up to meet the growing demand, Otis India is proud to be at the forefront of providing innovative and environmentally friendly solutions.”
