Otis Provides VT for India's First High-Speed Rail Line

On October 30, Otis showcased how its vertical-transportation (VT) equipment will enhance accessibility across six stations and one depot that are part of India's first high-speed rail line. The megaproject will use the same "Shinkansen" (bullet-train) technology that has transformed travel across Japan, and will reduce train travel time over the 580-km stretch between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just over 2 h. The fastest trains will travel at up to 320 km/h, saving approximately 4 h of travel time. Recent new orders bring the number of Otis VT units on the high-tech railway to 55 units, including Gen2® Stream elevators featuring machine-room-less technology powered by Otis ReGenTM regenerative drive systems and 520 NPE escalators, which boast heavy-duty design for safety, endurance and reliability.
