Building on a more than 10-year relationship, Otis has been awarded a contract to supply 127 vertical-transportation (VT) units — including more than 40 Gen2® elevators and 85 515NPE escalators — to Panama Metro Line 3. Replacing conventional steel cables with polyurethane-coated flat belts, Gen2 eliminates the need for a separate machine room and features energy-efficient ReGenTM drives. Designed to serve large transportation hubs, 515NPE escalators are equipped with a frequency inverter that allows them to adapt to varying passenger flow. In 2012, Otis was tapped to design, manufacture, supply, install, test, commission and maintain Line 1’s 40 elevators and 130 escalators. In 2016, the OEM was chosen to supply 65 elevators and 132 escalators, along with three elevators and six escalators serving an extension, for Line 2. Line 3 spans 34 km.
