Otis Selected for London Underground Escalator Modernization

Transport for London (TfL) selected Otis to deliver a comprehensive escalator service and modernization program for 172 units across the London Underground, Otis announced on January 8. Starting in April, the contract will bring the total number of units serviced by Otis to more than 300 across the entire network — helping to support 1.2 billion passenger journeys annually on the London Underground. Otis installed the first passenger escalators on the London Underground at Earl's Court Station in 1911. On the Elizabeth Line, Otis supports approximately 800,000 passenger journeys daily with its escalators and technicians. Escalators in the TfL network operate almost continuously — up to 20 h a day, and ongoing escalator maintenance and modernization is essential to keeping the units safe and reliable, Otis observed.
