Phase One of Mumbai Railway Station Upgrade Complete

A new escalator was inaugurated on platform No. 4 at Ghatkopar railway station, in Mumbai, India, completing the first phase of the station’s upgrade project, MSN reports. The two-part restoration effort led by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corp. (MRVC) at Ghatkopar station is part of a larger effort to refurbish 17 stations in the city. The upgrade at Ghatkopar station, an important connection between other major stations, aims to modernize the station and ease congestion. With an estimated cost of Rs 1.3 billion (USD$15.3 million), the project is expected to bring significant improvements in passenger experience. The second phase of its upgradation is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. “We commissioned one more escalator on platform number 4 at Ghatkopar railway station a couple of days ago, taking the total number of escalators installed during phase one to six,” said an MRVC official.
