Astra Tower, a 40-story luxury residential high-rise that will become Salt Lake City’s tallest tower, has officially broken ground, Building Design + Construction reports. The project, designed by architect firm HKS and planned for construction at 200 South State Street, will include 372 luxury rental apartments available as studios and one- and two-bedroom options. Two of the tower’s levels will be set as penthouses. Residents will have views of the Salt Lake Valley and Wasatch Front, with the south and southeast faҫades clad with a floor-to-ceiling glass wall. The rest of the structure will have a variation of glass fiber-reinforced concrete cladding with recessed windows. The top will have a unique open rooftop that activates the skyline. The structure of the building will be erected in the first 20 months of the project, with the tower reaching its full height of 450 ft by September 2023. The plan will seek LEED Gold certification and address environmental issues specific to northern Utah, such as air quality. The general contractor is Jacobsen Construction Co., and completion is expected in fall 2024.
