The Knoxville (Tennessee) Fire Department confirmed that one of two elevators in Summit Towers was back up and running on February 15 after both were broken that morning, leaving almost 300 residents with only stairs, WVLT 8 reported. According to officials, one of the elevators stopped working late Monday evening, and the other went out Tuesday morning. Summit Towers is an apartment community for ages 62 and above or those with disabilities, according to the property website. Upon learning of the elevator outage, the property management team contacted the vendor to request repairs. Recently, the vendor installed new major parts of the system in response to damage resulting from a small fire and engagement of the sprinkler system in January. Over the last month, approximately US$54,000 has been spent on the elevator system. An elevator repair company arrived at the apartment building shortly after the source’s report with hopes of having second elevator running the same day.
