‘Scary’ Elevator Upgrades Commence After Delays

After delays, the elevator at the Wallace Center in Greenwich, Connecticut, is receiving a much-needed upgrade, the Stamford Advocate reports. The original plan for the elevator’s work was set to be completed by June, but according to a July 14 Department of Public Works statement, construction did not begin until the end of June. This delay means the upgrade will not be completed until the end of September. The town’s senior center’s elevator has been dubbed as a “scary amusement park ride” by Selectperson Janet Stone McGuigan. Some Representative Town Meeting members said that people have been trapped in this elevator in recent years. The work is part of a planned modernization that will improve long-term performance.
