Strategies Developed at ISO Plenary Meeting in Paris

Plenary participants listen to a presentation.

On April 18-19, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) plenary meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Gero Gschwendtner, took place in Paris at AFNOR Group’s headquarters. After two virtual plenary sessions, it was the first physical meeting since the 2019 plenary session in Frankfurt, Germany, where elevator, escalator and moving walk experts came together again in one place. Representatives from 22 countries and four liaison organizations of this industry came together to discuss current topics and standards. AFNOR perfectly organized this hybrid meeting, with 51 delegates attending in person and 16 dialing in remotely. The event provided an excellent platform for international exchange and enabled participants to develop joint strategies. With a strong focus on innovation and safety, the meeting was a success. The sustainability of ISO/TC 178 standards was also a key topic. Among all the decisions taken there, those on the initiation of new information and communication technology projects deserve special mention. The international cooperation strengthened connections within the industry and showed that the elevator industry is well-prepared for the future. — reported by Dr. Gero Gschwendtner
