TEI Group recently told ELEVATOR WORLD it has been awarded a contract to modernize 22 passenger and three freight elevators at 1411 Broadway, also known as the World Apparel Center, in Midtown Manhattan, NYC. Designed by Erwin S. Chanin and completed in the late 1960s, the 39-story office tower is undergoing a US$40-million renovation that includes a new lobby, storefronts and plazas by architect Dan Shannon of MdeAS, according to property manager CBRE. The work also includes new windows throughout the steel building and a refurbished façade. The property is one block from Bryant Park and “steps away” from the Times Square-42nd Street subway station, which can also be accessed directly from its lobby.
