The University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa began a campuswide elevator upgrade that involves installation of door-lock mechanisms on 51 units and complete modernization of seven elevators, The Oracle university newspaper reported on August 28. Including elevators serving the library, USF Tampa bookstore, Cooper Hall and Crescent Hill parking garage, door-lock monitoring upgrades are slated for completion by the end of this year. These elevators will be out of service for one week at a time, while those undergoing complete modernization are expected to be out of service for at least a month. Buildings with only one elevator will be modernized during winter break, and in buildings with more than one elevator, units will be upgraded one at a time. Complete modernizations, which involve replacing major components, are scheduled for completion by mid to late 2024.
