Vancouver developer Joo Kim Tiah of Holborn Group has unveiled a proposal for a new 1,033-ft supertall skyscraper in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reports. The proposal follows two key changes in Vancouver, including the city-ordered demolition of the derelict heritage Dunsmuir House, which formerly served as low-income housing, and an amendment to Vancouver’s view cone policy that now permits allows taller buildings. The skyscraper would set the stage for a mixed-use development featuring a separate, second site at 388 Abbott Street. The supertall’s design is inspired by sea sponges and coral reefs and features an observation deck that will be free for locals.
