Vendors, Mayor Respond to Elevator Outages at Cleveland’s West Side Market
All four elevators at Cleveland, Ohio, landmark West Side Market are out of order, News 5 Cleveland is among outlets to report. Vendors have expressed outrage following the breakdown of the final working lift, as these elevators allow them to move tons and gallons worth of produce from the basement to the market floor each day. The City of Cleveland owns the historic market, and Mayor Justin Bibb has issued a response, calling for the Cleveland City Council to pass his US$15 million American Rescue Plan Act proposal to fund basic repairs at the market. The City of Cleveland said it is working on repairs and expects to bring one of the elevators back online.
