Repair and maintenance of vertical-transportation (VT) equipment serving Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd’s light rail transit (LRT) and other stations in Malaysia are being impacted by the lockdown in China, since spare parts are sourced from a factory in Shanghai, New Straits Times is among outlets to report. Rapid Rail says stations affected are on the Ampang-Sri Petaling LRT line, the Kelana Jaya LRT line, the monorail and the Kajang mass rapid transit line. Shipping of spare parts from the Shanghai OEM takes approximately three months, and Rapid Rail says it is closely monitoring the situation to expedite procurement from suppliers and contractors. VT repair and maintenance at the monorail station is expected to be complete by July 31, while work at the remaining stations is scheduled for completion by September 30. Aside from the VT at these stations, Rapid Rail observes that, overall, VT equipment availability is 96.5% for elevators and 90% for escalators.
