Woman Dies in Apartment Elevator Accident in Türkiye

A woman was killed after her apartment building’s elevator plunged from the seventh floor to the basement on September 30 in Tarsus, Türkiye, outlets including People report. She was leaving her apartment to go to work when the elevator began to malfunction. Security camera footage of the incident shows her husband trying to pry open the elevator doors after she called to tell him she was trapped. Shortly after, the elevator cabin, along with several concrete counterweights, fell down the shaft. Firefighters removed the woman from the wreckage and transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The Tarsus Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the incident, and three people were taken into custody, including former and current managers responsible for the lift’s maintenance and the property manager. Investigators have not determined the exact cause of the accident.
