TKE Publishes First Sustainability Report

TK Elevator (TKE) announced its first sustainability report on May 12, reflecting the OEM’s “focus on sustainability in all business activities as an integral part of corporate strategy.” The report was compiled in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative sustainability reporting standard, and sets ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The report is structured according to environmental, social and governance criteria and covers sustainability in production, service and the supply chain; ethical business practices and compliance; health and safety; and diversity. It lays out key milestones TKE achieved in 2020-21 and establishes emissions reduction targets. In 2020-21, TKE reports it reduced direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 19% compared to 2018-19, increased the portion of electricity obtained from renewable sources to more than 45%, reduced the number of reportable work-related incidents by 50% over the past five years and conducted its first-ever global employee survey in an effort to reinforce a commitment to inclusion and diversity. As for SBTi-validated targets, TKE has committed to reducing direct and indirect GHG emissions by 53% by 2030 compared to 2019, reduce indirectly generated emissions by 23% compared to 2021 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050 as one of more than 2,000 businesses that have committed to the United Nations’ “Race to Zero” campaign.
