Landmark Houston Building To Be Converted to Hilton Hotel

The Scanlan Building, an 11-story structure at 405 Main Street in Houston, Texas, built in 1909, is set to be converted into Hilton’s first Canopy by Hilton Hotel following its purchase late last year by SLTX Capital, outlets including Chron report. Built by the family of two-time Houston Mayor Thomas Scanlan, the building was once home to the Republic of Texas’ presidential palace. It was designated a landmark by the City of Houston in 2000. The 96,699-ft2 property is distinguished by crown molding, marble interiors and a famous mural of a boy on a bicycle painted on one side. While historical elements will be preserved, the developer will modernize the building’s plumbing and electrical and mechanical systems, including elevators. Work is set to start in early 2026, with the opening of the 140-room hotel anticipated in summer 2027.
