TK Elevator’s (TKE) Innovation and Qualification Center (IQC), part of its new North American headquarters in Atlanta that includes the tallest elevator test tower in North America, achieved the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, TKE announced on April 12. “While there are tens of thousands of buildings worldwide with some level of LEED certification, very few include elevator test towers,” TKE observed. In addition to the IQC, the adjacent Corporate Headquarters building also earned LEED Gold certification. The achievements point to TKE’s commitment to building sustainable buildings, manufacturing environmentally friendly elevators and achieving net-zero carbon by 2050. TKE Senior Sustainability Manager Monica Miller Brown said that, working in partnership with architect Gensler, TKE created “an environmentally friendly building like no other in the industry.” At the IQC, TKE realized a 12% reduction in embodied carbon compared to typical construction through concrete mix optimization, achieved a 40% reduction in potable water use compared to typical buildings and realized approximately 45% in energy savings by using regenerative-drive elevators that put power back into the building.
