Charlotte High-Rise Plan Refined, Gets Taller

Chicago’s Riverside Investment and Development has refined its plan for Queensbridge Collective, a trio of towers — two residential and one office — at 1111 South Tryon Street in the South End of Charlotte, North Carolina, by axing one of the residential towers and making the remaining residential tower taller, The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reports. The original plan was for a 42-story office building and 38- and 30-story residential towers, but a high water table led the developer to take one of the residential towers (which was to include underground parking) out of the picture. Now on the drawing board are a 45-story, 400-unit residential tower and a 42-story office tower, which will be taller than the residential tower due to large floor sizes. Also planned is a nine-story parking podium with up to 1,700 spaces, as well as a 10th-floor amenity area with 12,000 ft2 for a restaurant. Riverside observes that fewer buildings means better views for tower occupants. Construction is slated to start before the end of the year, with completion anticipated in mid-2025.
