Hyundai Elevator has installed two double-deck The El Duo elevators and four high-speed single-deck elevators, which have been operational since March, in the LG Uplus building. The edifice has 21 stories above ground and seven below ground. It serves as LG Uplus Corp.’s headquarters and is located in Yongsan, Seoul. Hyundai Elevator calls the tower the site of “the first operation of double-deck elevators” in the country.
Passenger capacity of the double-deck elevators is boosted by up to 1.8 times due to their technology, and these units feature a speed of 4 mps and an adjustable floor-distance device designed by Hyundai Elevator to precisely maintain the floor distance between the upper and lower cabins. Environmentally friendly aspects of the double-deck units include a permanent-magnet synchronous motor and a power-revitalization inverter.
There are two escalators in the building and a total of 10 elevators. Six of the elevators are synchronized with the Hyundai Elevator Intelligent Access System (HELIAS), an intelligent passenger-traffic-analyzing system that optimizes deployment of units depending on the floor. The system also uses an identification card in tandem with an intelligent “Speed Gate” to call an elevator to a specific floor on which a user works without any button presses. Additionally, the Hyundai Real Time Service (HRTS) remote-control system monitors the elevators’ operation in real time 24/7. Congestion in the lobby area was reduced by dispersing traffic between the first and second floors. People entering from the basement parking lot are guided to use a shuttle elevator to the second floor via the upper car of the double-deck units. These installations feature a high-strength chain drive to prevent slipping, while the accurate control of their Floor Distance Adjustable Device reacts to various displacements of the gap between two floors and maintains a safe speed for different heights of floors. An emergency safety device is installed in the main frame of each whole car, and each car has its own emergency safety device and buffer. In addition, control operation for earthquake events enhances safety.
