Colley Elevator Co. of Bensenville, Illinois, featured this interesting installation, at 321 South Jefferson Street in Chicago, on its Twitter account. Colley’s Craig Zomchek explained the company encountered it when it recently needed its five-year full-load test. While Colley passed on the job, Zomchek said the unit “works just fine.”
Noticing that its controller was from C.J. Anderson & Co., we reached out to C.J. Anderson’s Tom Sybert. He researched its records, which go back to 1910, and found the original sales order, a copy of the controller bulletin, a specifications sheet and a wiring diagram that would have been provided for the project. It was manufactured and installed in 1951 using a design that has been around since 1937. The company still has parts available for the controller, limit switches, gate switches and fixtures.
