The Wide & Narrow Alleys

The lift entrance on the street

The Wide & Narrow Alleys in Chengdu is one of the most famous tourism attractions in Sichuan Province of western China. Most of the buildings on the streets used for teahouses, restaurants and souvenir shops have a local and ancient architectural style. With tens of thousands of visitors from home and abroad traversing the few narrow streets a day, it is a hard job to nudge one’s way through the crowded streets on weekends or holidays.

Your author prefers to take a bus and go on foot to access the alleys. However, for those who prefer not to walk the last mile, driving is a more difficult task, especially when finding a parking lot. To his surprise, your author discovered a basement parking lot in October 2014 made available right beneath one of the busiest streets. Two Otis elevators provide easy access to the parking lot from the crowded street level. Submitted by Peng Jie, EW Correspondent.
