40-ft Fall from Escalator Leaves Boy with Broken Leg

A 12-year-old boy trying to “ride an escalator rail” at a shopping center in Tver, Russia, broke his leg after falling 40 ft during the incident, Metro reported on May 1. The boy was apparently pulled over the edge of the escalator at the shopping center near Moscow after his coat got stuck in the mechanism. He fell from the third to the ground floor, which, according to witnesses, left him “screaming in pain,” though they also said he was lucky to escape without more serious injuries. In fact, he was saved from being critically hurt by landing on the roof of a grocery store, which cushioned his fall. He was reportedly recovering after being taken to a nearby hospital.
