The Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) Construction Hoist Committee provided an update in the latest CECA newsletter following the committee’s November meeting. Research on different companies is ongoing toward creating a single construction hoist insurance program that would reduce rates by pooling the businesses and removing their profiles from the wider, high-risk profile of construction and/or foreign construction elevator businesses. Ontario’s Technical Standards and Safety Authority has not yet adopted Z185 or Z256, which pertain to safety code for personnel hoists and material hoists, respectively. These will be adopted when the new 2025 B44 code is adopted next year. The committee seeks to pursue a single license throughout Canada and continues to focus on operator training. In addition, committee members discussed hoist safety issues to be brought before CECA’s Safety Committee.
