Otis announced on July 7 its Gen3TM Comfort elevator, developed by a design team in Shanghai, won a prestigious Red Dot Award in the Mega Trends: Ageing and Geriatrics category. High-quality senior living is a priority in China, where more than 400 million people are projected to be older than 60 by 2035, Otis observed. Many will live in older apartment blocks where inaccessible and unreliable elevators can restrict their independence and quality of life. Combining advanced accessibility features with intelligent elevator technology, the Otis Gen3 Comfort was engineered specifically to support the modernization of aging buildings. Outside of China, these features are available with Otis VivaTM Solutions. Otis Greater China President Sally Loh said the company worked with thousands of older residents to better understand their daily habits and needs to develop Gen3 Comfort.
