Elevator Construction Begins On Brooklyn Subway Station

Construction has begun for long-wanted elevators at the 7th Avenue subway station in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York, Brownstoner was among sources to report in February. Passengers, many of them tired of having to use stairs to enter the F and G station, have been pushing for a lift installation since at least 2018. Some of the passengers have even posted pro-elevator signs, such as, “What comes down is starting at the corner of 9th Street. The site has had workers taking over one lane of parking spaces, though they are leaving the bicycle lane clear. The project involves the installation of three elevators — two street-level cars on 7th Avenue and one on the station’s mezzanine that will take passengers to the platform. Construction will be complete by July 2023, according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials. The funding for the multimillion-dollar lift will come from a US$4-billion federal stimulus deal.
