A Filipino crew member of the Arvia cruise ship, which belongs to Carnival subsidiary P&O cruises, died on October 26 in an elevator accident when the ship was enroute from Southampton, U.K., to Bridgetown, Barbados, Cruise Blog is among outlets to report. P&O Cruises confirmed the incident and said in a statement the crew member was crushed. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends both on board and at home, and we are providing every possible support for them,” the statement read. Following the Sunday incident, Arvia made an unscheduled stop in Tenerife, Spain. Inspectors with the U.K.’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch are now set to board the ship at its next port of call and determine next steps.
