Elevator Room Fire Put Out at Seattle's Space Needle

In the early hours of February 23, Seattle, Washington’s Space Needle was scorched by a minor blaze. The fire took hold in an elevator control room located at the top of the iconic structure. Faced with non-operational elevators upon arrival, fire personnel climbed 90 flights of stairs to put out the flames. There were no injuries or damage to the landmark. The Space Needle is currently undergoing construction, and Otis is wrapping up a modernization of the elevator system. A Seattle Fire spokesperson did not offer a cause for the fire, noting the incident is under investigation. Elevator service was reinstated, and the Space Needle’s routine operations were unaffected.
