Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province, just east of Seoul, South Korea, has allocated KRW200 million (US$138,228) for detailed design services by Seoul Transportation Corp. for an escalator at the Gwangmyeong Intersection Station on Line 7 of the subway, The Asia Business Daily reports. By 2029, the city aims to install an escalator on the station’s external staircase. The 1.2 m-wide escalator, like the staircase, will connect the station’s first basement floor to its second basement floor. There will be two upper and two lower units. With the area experiencing large-scale redevelopment and construction, the station is expected to see growing traffic. Approximately 41,176 people use the Gwangmyeong Intersection Station daily, making it the fourth-busiest among the 42 stations along Line 7.
