Fermator, a leading manufacturer of automatic elevator doors, recently made major strides in safety and efficiency at its Falset plant in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, with the help of the MiR1200 Pallet Jack Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR)  and the integration expertise of industrial intralogistics specialist MTS Tech. The pallet jack is manufactured by Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), a Teradyne Robotics company. At the 14,000-m2 Falset plant, which manufactures standard doors for newly installed elevators, internal transport of materials between the warehouse and production lines was identified as a weak point since it depended entirely on forklifts and pallet jacks driven by operators. The MiR1200 Pallet Jack AMR has increased production and better protected operators, resulting in Fermator increasing its internal safety rating from 60% to 90%. Implementation of the AMR means employes who previously operated forklifts and pallet jacks can now focus on less repetitive, higher-value tasks. “Our team is the most important asset we have, and that implies a very high level of commitment,” Fermator Commercial Director and Co-CEO Eduard Amigó said.
